Biographies
Xan Burley is from Youngstown, OH and graduated from the University of Michigan with degrees in Dance and English. She teaches dance in Red Hook, Brooklyn, acts as WAXworks production director, dances for a splendid smattering of creative people, including Doorknob Co., Shannon Gillen, and Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance and makes her own work with partner Alex Springer as alexanDance Performance. Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, Megan Brunsvold graduated with a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah. She has had the pleasure of performing with Daniel Charon since 2000. She has also thoroughly enjoyed working with Nancy Bannon, and with Doug Varone at the Metropolitan Opera.
Marcos Duran holds a BFA in Dance from the University of California, Santa Barbara. In California, he has served as the videographer for Dance Monks, a guest artist with Jean Issac’s San Diego Dance Theater and Malashock Dance, as a company member with Jerry Pearson’s Santa Barbara Dance Theater, Stephanie Nugent Dance, Misa Kelly/ Sonneblauma Danscz Theater, Keith Johnson/ Dancers and Gary Masters/San Jose Dance Co. Since being based in Brooklyn, NY, Marcos has worked on projects with Meredith Glisson, Faye Driscoll, Pavel Zustiak, and Teri and Oliver Steele. He currently enjoys dancing for AlexanDance Performance, Mc Arthur Dance Project and Daniel Charon in addition to investigating his own creations.
A native of South Africa, Joanna Kotze completed her BA in Architecture at Miami University, Ohio, in 1998 while dancing with the Miami University Dance Theatre. Since moving to New York in 1998, she has worked with Kimberly Bartosik, Netta Yerushalmy, the Metropolitan Opera including their works by Doug Varone, Nina Winthrop, and others. She has danced with Wally Cardona since 2000. She has choreographed four pieces for Miami's Dance Theatre and presented a work-in -progress at Judson Church through Movement Research last May. Along with performing and choreographing, she studies Klein technique with Barbara Mahler, studies and performs various styles of swing dancing, and is a freelance architectural model builder. She has been dancing in works by Daniel Charon since 1999.
Meredith McCanse has been working with Daniel for the last 5 years, and feels amazingly fortunate to count him and his phenomenal dancers among her friends. Other choreographers she has worked with while in NY include Jeremy Nelson and Ashleigh Leite. She has two fantastic cats, Tango and Johnny Cash, with whom she shares an apartment in Brooklyn.
Hsiao- Jou Tang was born and raised in Taiwan. She moved to New York in 2004 to attend SUNY Purchase College, and graduated in 2008 with a BFA in Dance. She has had the great pleasure of working with a number of companies and choreographers including Doug Varone, Adriane Fang, Megan Williams, Kevin Wynn Collection, Sidra Bell Dance NYC, Nora Petroliunas and alexanDance Performance. She is thrilled to be here and has had a great time working and dancing with all of these lovely folks.
